Announcing The 2011 Pledge Program Winners!

Denair, CA

With extensive help from Marcy Montano, a secretary at Denair High School, and Liberty Mutual Sales Representative Sheila Boer, the Denair Volunteer Fire Department found that attendance at the local High School football games was a great way to raise awareness for the program. Additionally, they walked door-to-door around town to visit local residents, inform them about the program, and encourage participation and support. The Denair Volunteer Fire Department plans to use the grant to obtain more products for Fire Prevention and to possibly obtain some new extrication tools.

Merrimac, MA

The Merrimac Fire Department and its members are honored to be a recipient of one of ten 2011 Be Fire Smart Fire Safety Pledge Program Grants. Historically, the Department has been so actively involved in the community that when it came time to promote the Be Fire Smart Pledge Program this fall, they had access to a tremendous breadth of people and resources to help spread the word.

With the Fire Safety Pledge Program Grant winnings, the Merrimac Fire Department will purchase much needed personal protective clothing for their firefighters and continue to expand their successful public education, juvenile fire intervention and community outreach programs. "We are very pleased and honored to be one of the ten Be Fire Smart Fire Safety Pledge grant recipients. With the budget reductions we and other departments across the country continue to experience due to the current economic crisis, this grant award will continue to allow the Merrimac Fire Department to provide the highest level of service to our customers, the residents and tax payers of the Town of Merrimac.
