Be Fire Smart Guidelines, Details & FAQ's

Liberty Mutual Insurance is proud to honor the firefighters who put their lives on the line to protect their communities every day.  That's why we created the Firemark Award as a national recognition of hundreds of firefighters in local communities for their generous service in two categories.

The Firemark Award honors the valor and selfless spirit of career and volunteer firefighters who go above and beyond the call of duty to keep our communities safe. The program recognizes firefighters at two local levels and a national level:

Local Awards
  • Community Service Firemark Award: Recognizes local firefighters who have given back to their communities beyond their daily responsibilities.
  • Heroic Firemark Award: Recognizes local firefighters who assisted in a life-saving effort without regard for their own personal safety
National Award
  • Presented to one Community Service Firemark Award recipient and one Heroic Firemark Award recipient, each selected by an independent committee including members from the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
  • Recipients receive a $10,000 donation to their fire departments and a three-night, four-day all-expenses-paid trip for four to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. In ordered to be considered for the 2011 national award, all local nominations must be submitted by Saturday, December 31, 2011.
